Intel Xeon Platinum 8174
24-core Xeon built for SuperMUC-NG's warm-water-cooled nodes.
Why this part
Another off-catalogue SKU, clocked high and specified for SuperMUC-NG. LRZ has run warm-water direct liquid cooling since SuperMUC in 2012, which is what makes a 240W part practical at 6,336 nodes: the heat comes out at a temperature high enough to reuse rather than merely reject, and the site avoids chillers almost entirely. The cooling architecture is what permits the processor choice, not the other way round.

“Units recorded” sums only the edges where a public source states a quantity. It is a floor, not a total, and should never be read as installed base.
