Meta Tectonic

Meta's in-house distributed storage system, reached through a FUSE API and tuned for flash. Used for the checkpoint load that dominates write traffic on a large training run.

Why this part

An operator that builds its own storage, reached through a FUSE API and tuned for checkpointing during training. Tectonic exists in this taxonomy for the same reason Graviton and Tectonic's sibling systems do: the largest operators no longer buy any layer of their stack, and a supply-chain map that only counts purchasable products will miss a growing share of the world's compute entirely. Meta published enough about its two GenAI clusters to make this one visible; most such systems are not.

“Units recorded” sums only the edges where a public source states a quantity. It is a floor, not a total, and should never be read as installed base.
