Quadrics QsNet
Low-latency fat-tree fabric with hardware support for collective operations, years before that became standard. Quadrics wound down in 2009 and the technology went nowhere.
Why this part
Quadrics built the fastest commodity-attachable network of its era and did not survive it. QsNet put remote DMA and hardware collectives on the adapter years before InfiniBand did, which is exactly what ASCI Q needed. The company closed in 2009, absorbed by the same economics that killed Myrinet: a specialist network vendor cannot outspend an ecosystem, and InfiniBand had one.
