CPTEC Sun Fire Cluster
Also known as CPTEC NEC/Sun Opteron cluster
Operated by INPE at INPE Cachoeira Paulista Site .
Phase 1 seed dataset, compiled by hand. These rows were built from public operator, laboratory and vendor sources. A mechanical second-reader pass has since fetched every cited source: 1263 of 1345 systems have a readable citation that names them, and 56 are genuinely weakly sourced. Every claim carries its source and a confidence tier. Treat anything below verified as a lead, not a citation.

What this machine is made of
One row per supplier relationship. “Supplier at build” is the company that shipped the part at the time; where that company has since been acquired, the parent it rolls up to today is shown beside it. That distinction is what makes ticker-level aggregation possible across a thirty-year dataset.

The read
The Sun Microsystems Opteron cluster that INPE's CPTEC weather and climate centre bought from NEC in 2007 to replace its NEC SX-6. TOP500 lists a Sun Fire x2200 M2 cluster (manufacturer NEC/Sun) of 1,100 cores of Opteron dual core 2.6GHz on InfiniBand, running SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9, installed in 2007, 4.51 TFlop/s Rmax and 5.72 TFlop/s Rpeak, ranked 418th on the June 2007 list, its only appearance found, which is the basis for the status date. Agencia FAPESP (30 July 2007) reports a new cluster of about 1,100 processors rated at 4.5 teraflops, 5.9 times the 0.76 teraflops of the SX-6 it replaced, bought from NEC for US$2.4 million, due to start operating in August 2007 and ranked 416th on the TOP500 and 12th among weather and climate systems; its rank differs by two from the 418th in the TOP500 archive. The article does not name the processor or interconnect.

Source check
We fetched this system's own citations and recorded whether each page actually mentions it. This is a corroboration signal, not a fact check, and it is published so you can see how well the sourcing holds up rather than take it on trust.
