Monash M3

Also known as M3, MASSIVE

Operated by Monash University .

Phase 1 seed dataset, compiled by hand. These rows were built from public operator, laboratory and vendor sources. A mechanical second-reader pass has since fetched every cited source: 1263 of 1345 systems have a readable citation that names them, and 56 are genuinely weakly sourced. Every claim carries its source and a confidence tier. Treat anything below verified as a lead, not a citation.

Figures are as last publicly reported for the configuration described below, not a live measurement. Where a system was upgraded in place, the post-upgrade configuration is shown and the earlier one appears in the timeline.

What this machine is made of

One row per supplier relationship. “Supplier at build” is the company that shipped the part at the time; where that company has since been acquired, the parent it rolls up to today is shown beside it. That distinction is what makes ticker-level aggregation possible across a thirty-year dataset.

The read

M3, Monash University's HPC cluster (formerly known as MASSIVE, which has served researchers since 2010). The eResearch documentation describes mostly Intel CPUs and NVIDIA GPUs on Mellanox RDMA over Converged Ethernet. Its partition table lists 79 general nodes (1,864 cores), 45 m3i, 11 m3j, 1 m3m and 2 short-job nodes (810, 198, 18 and 36 cores), 20 nodes in the A100, T4 and A40 gpu partition (552 cores, 52 GPUs), 2 H100 nodes (144 cores, 8 GPUs) and 19 V100 nodes (342 cores, 56 GPUs). The 3,964 cores figure is the sum of those public partitions and excludes desktop nodes and restricted group partitions. No LINPACK result is published.

Source check

We fetched this system's own citations and recorded whether each page actually mentions it. This is a corroboration signal, not a fact check, and it is published so you can see how well the sourcing holds up rather than take it on trust.
