OCTOPUS
Also known as Osaka university Cybermedia cenTer Over-Petascale Universal Supercomputer
Operated by D3 Center, Osaka University .
Phase 1 seed dataset, compiled by hand. These rows were built from public operator, laboratory and vendor sources. A mechanical second-reader pass has since fetched every cited source: 1263 of 1345 systems have a readable citation that names them, and 56 are genuinely weakly sourced. Every claim carries its source and a confidence tier. Treat anything below verified as a lead, not a citation.

Figures are as last publicly reported for the configuration described below, not a live measurement. Where a system was upgraded in place, the post-upgrade configuration is shown and the earlier one appears in the timeline.
What this machine is made of
One row per supplier relationship. “Supplier at build” is the company that shipped the part at the time; where that company has since been acquired, the parent it rolls up to today is shown beside it. That distinction is what makes ticker-level aggregation possible across a thirty-year dataset.

The read
Osaka University's over-petascale hybrid cluster, started in December 2017 and retired on 29 March 2024, now archived on the D3 Center's past-services page. 319 nodes in four clusters: 236 general-purpose nodes (two Xeon Gold 6126 12-core CPUs, 192 GB), 37 GPU nodes (the same CPUs and four NVLink NVIDIA Tesla P100), 44 Xeon Phi 7210 nodes and 2 large shared-memory nodes (eight Xeon Platinum 8153 CPUs, 6 TB), on EDR InfiniBand with 3.1 PB of DDN EXAScaler Lustre. The 1.463 PFlop/s theoretical peak is the operator's July 2017 figure, which the page itself says may differ slightly from the final system. No HPL result is published, so no Rmax is recorded and the machine was never on the TOP500. The facility was the Cybermedia Center, now part of the D3 Center, so no site is recorded.

Source check
We fetched this system's own citations and recorded whether each page actually mentions it. This is a corroboration signal, not a fact check, and it is published so you can see how well the sourcing holds up rather than take it on trust.
| Cited source | Result | Found on the page |
|---|---|---|
| hpc.cmc.osaka-u.ac.jp | names system and part | NVIDIA Tesla P100, Mellanox InfiniBand EDR |
